Read More…
Satu Dekade Pemantauan Reef Check di Indonesia
Geoinformatics, what the bloody hell is it?
The world is witnessing the born of an evolution of four disciplines to one, called geoinformatics. This is generated by the vast development of technology that needs more ability to manage, analyze and display data with one discipline instead of bunch of disciplines.
The definition of Geoinformatics as a new discipline in the earth sciences (Muller 2006) is complex. Some publications mention that geoinformatics overlaps and is even similar with Computational Geography, GeoComputation, Geographic Information Science and Geomatics (Turner 2006; Goodchild 1997). However, the definition mentioned by PACES (2003) has proven that geoinformatics is a single discipline, which combines computer science and geosciences with the ability to answer complex scientific questions. More specifically, the focus of geoinformatics is in combination of earth spatial analysis (i.e. remote sensing, photogrammetry, geographic information systems, and global positioning systems) with more power for collection, manipulation, archiving, processing and visualization of spatial data (Arrowsmith 2006).
Thus, with geoinformatics, we use one great discipline that integrate the benefit of disciplines.
